Garage Door Safety Inspection
You moved in three months ago. The door works, but nobody can say how old the springs are, when anyone last looked at it, or whether the little sensors by the floor have ever been tested.
Garage Door Safety Inspection
Homeowners in Woodstock often ask whether their door has years left or is close to done. We tell you plainly. A door with sound panels and a good frame deserves a repair; a rusted, twisted or badly patched one is money better spent on a new door, and we explain which is which.
Garage door services
A garage door in Woodstock rarely fails all at once. It gets louder, slower or less even first. Our services are arranged so you can act at any point: a tune-up while it is still working, a repair when something lets go, or a replacement when the door has earned its retirement.

Adjusting spring tension is fine work. A quarter turn changes how the door rests at halfway, and the aim is a door that stays where it is left.

Reversing halfway down does not mean the door is broken; it is protecting something. The photo-eyes have lost their line of sight, or the force setting has drifted.

Woodstock
We aim to leave every garage in Woodstock with a door that runs smoothly, closes fully and stops for anything in its path. That means balance set, tracks aligned, hardware tight, sensors tested and remotes working, whatever the original call was about, because a door is only fixed when all of it works.

2021 census · what it means at the door
50%Older homes
About 50% of homes in Woodstock were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.
Hardware on an older door has often been through many winters: hinges with worn pins, rollers with tired bearings, bottom brackets rusted at the floor line. Replacing these in sets restores a smooth lift and takes a surprising amount of noise out of the garage.
57%
Single-detached houses make up about 57% of homes in Woodstock (2021 Census).
A mixed neighbourhood is where weatherproofing varies most. A detached garage with an old, uneven apron needs a thicker bottom seal; a newer townhouse door mostly needs a cracked section of seal replaced. We look at how each door meets its floor and fit what closes the gap.

Garage Door Safety Inspection
You moved in three months ago. The door works, but nobody can say how old the springs are, when anyone last looked at it, or whether the little sensors by the floor have ever been tested.
Garage Door Safety InspectionIt is the contact-reversal check. A short length of 2x4 lies flat on the floor in the middle of the opening and the door is closed from the wall button. When the bottom edge meets the wood, the door should halt and travel back up without help. Passing shows the opener's down-force and travel limits are set to back off from something solid. The technician never substitutes a hand or foot for the board.
A single escaped roller on a sound door with no cable trouble is usually done in well under an hour once the door is secured. A door that has racked with slack cables, several rollers out and a bent hinge takes longer because the springs are unwound, cables rewound and hardware replaced before the rollers go back. A vehicle strike that needs new track is the longest version. You get an estimate of time on arrival.
Gauge runs backwards: a larger number means thinner steel. Light single doors often come with 18-gauge hinges, 14-gauge is the heavier standard for most residential doors, and 11-gauge is commercial stock. A heavy insulated double door, a door used many times a day, or a door whose hinges keep cracking benefits from the thicker option. The technician matches or improves on what was fitted, provided the width and hole pattern suit the stiles.
The two springs are the same age and have stretched the same number of times, so the one still hanging is close behind. There is also a balance reason: a door lifts level only when both sides pull equally, and a new spring beside a worn one lifts its corner first and twists the door. Fitting a matched pair sets both sides the same and avoids a second visit a few months on.
Four things are checked in order. The door may be disconnected at the red handle, or the manual lock may be engaged. The trolley may be jammed against the stop bolt at the end of the rail. Or the drive gear inside the head has stripped, so the motor turns without turning the sprocket; pale shavings under the cover confirm it. A broken spring also leaves a motor humming against a door far too heavy to lift, and that is spring work first.
