Garage Doors in Woodstock, OntarioCheck. Measure.Adjust. Test.

Every job follows the same order: inspect the whole door, measure spring size, cable length and door weight, make the adjustment, then run the door through full cycles and safety tests. Method is what makes a repair last instead of coming back.

From the shop

Plain answers about your garage door.

Every spring we fit is matched to the door in front of us, not guessed from a chart. We weigh the door, measure the wire size, inside diameter and length of the old spring, and check the drums and cables before choosing the replacement. A door balanced this way rests where you leave it and asks very little of the opener.

Garage door services

Pick the job, we handle it

From a sagging wood door on an older home to a glass-panelled door on a new build, we work with the door you have. The services are grouped so you can find repairs, hardware, access controls and installations without hunting.

Repairs

Repair & Maintenance

Dents, cracks and rust on the panels; play in the hinges; rollers that have worn flat; a track that has shifted on its brackets. Repair work addresses each of these on its own or together, depending on what the door needs.

Springs

Springs & Hardware

Adjusting spring tension is fine work. A quarter turn changes how the door rests at halfway, and the aim is a door that stays where it is left.

Garage Door Track Repair or ReplacementHalfway up, the door lurches and one roller rides onto the lip of the channel. Near the curve the track looks wider than the rest, and the door hesitates in the same place on the way down.
  4. Gloved hands holding a bright cable and pliers gripping a frayed cable beside a garage-door track and pulley. — Garage Door Cable Replacement, Woodstock
Garage Door Cable ReplacementYour older door has springs along the tracks, and one cable has slipped off its pulley and dangles slack. The door lifts crooked and needs a shoulder to close, when it used to glide.
  5. Detached coil springs with end fittings and a cable rest on a bench in front of a closed garage door. — Torsion Spring Replacement, Woodstock
Torsion Spring ReplacementOne side of the door sits higher than the other in the tracks, and a lift cable is hanging slack or has jumped off its drum. On a two-spring door this often follows one spring letting go while the other keeps pulling.
  6. Two detached extension springs with hooked ends on a garage bench. — Extension Spring Replacement, Woodstock
Extension Spring ReplacementA bang like a dropped toolbox came from the garage last night. This morning one of the long springs beside the track hangs in two pieces, and the door will only rise a few inches before the opener gives up and stops.

Garage Door Tune-Up

You pulled the red cord to lift the door by hand during a power cut and it felt like lifting a car. The opener has been doing all the work and grumbling about it, and you are not sure how long that can go on.

How a visit goes

An opener is only half of the machine. The other half is the door: springs balanced so the door weighs almost nothing in your hand, rollers turning in a straight track, hinges holding the panels square.

Drawing: a house seen from the street. The van pulls up, the garage door is opened for the work, then it closes level and the porch light comes on.
  1. 1 of 3

    Booking made simple

One call sets the visit. We ask for the door type, the opener if you know it, and whether the door is currently stuck open or shut.

  2. 2 of 3

    A careful look

Every visit opens with a full check: balance, spring condition, cable wear, roller state, track alignment and sensor response.

  3. 3 of 3

    Clear choices, careful work

We lay out the options in plain terms, do what you choose with the right tools, and run the door until we are satisfied it is right.

2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 50%Older homes

About 50% of homes in Woodstock were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

Hardware on an older door has often been through many winters: hinges with worn pins, rollers with tired bearings, bottom brackets rusted at the floor line. Replacing these in sets restores a smooth lift and takes a surprising amount of noise out of the garage.

  • 57%

Single-detached houses make up about 57% of homes in Woodstock (2021 Census).

A mixed neighbourhood is where weatherproofing varies most. A detached garage with an old, uneven apron needs a thicker bottom seal; a newer townhouse door mostly needs a cracked section of seal replaced. We look at how each door meets its floor and fit what closes the gap.

What to expect, in questions

Why does the door stop just above the floor and reverse?

Two usual reasons. The travel limit is set a fraction too long, so the door reaches the slab, meets it harder than expected and interprets that as an obstruction. Or the bottom seal has stiffened or frozen and the last few centimetres take more force than the setting allows. Both are adjusted after the door is checked for balance, and the fix is confirmed by closing the door several times and running the contact reversal test.

There are white plastic shavings under the opener. What are they?

Teeth from the drive gear. Many chain-drive openers use a nylon gear between the motor and the sprocket, and after years of running, especially against a heavy or dry door, its teeth shear off and fall as fine white curls onto whatever is parked below. The motor then spins without moving the chain. The gear and sprocket are replaced as a kit, and the door balance is checked so the new gear is not asked to carry the same load.

Is a smart, app-connected opener diagnosed any differently?

The mechanical and electrical checks are identical, since the app is just another control. What is added is the connection: whether the head unit is on the home network, whether the app reports a fault code you can read off your phone, and whether a door-position sensor or hub has lost its pairing. Because the wall control and remotes work independently of the network, a door that fails on every control is a hardware question, not a connection one.

Does the opener need adjusting after the spring is replaced?

Usually a little. A balanced door presents a much lighter load than a door with a broken spring, so the opener's force settings are reset to suit it, and the travel limits are checked so the door seals at the floor and stops cleanly at the top. The technician then runs the reversal test and the photo-eye check to confirm the safety system responds correctly with the new balance.

Can any sensor pair be used with my opener?

Not any, no. Sensors are matched to the opener's make and generation, and a board from one era may ignore sensors from another even when the wires fit. The technician reads the model from the head unit label and fits the pair listed for it. Some operators accept a documented universal pair, and those are used where the maker lists them as suitable; on a very old unit with no compatible pair, a modern operator is the way forward.
